AUGUST INFO-
ORANGE DAILY FOLDERS:
Your child will bring home an orange folder each night. In this
folder you will find returned work, information from the office, newsletters,
homework, behavior calendar, etc. Please make sure your child keeps this
in their bag and brings it back and forth each day. This will serve a as a
communication resource for both of us and will also build responsiblity in your
child. In first grade, we do not check the folders as they do in
kindergarten. If a child has lunch money, a note from the parent,
etc. it will be up to him/her to bring it to the teacher when such things
are asked for each morning. After routines are established, I will put out a tray for the children to place their homework in. I return work and other
items in the afternoons and the students are expected to put these items in
their folders at that time. If the behavior calendar is blank, you can
assume your child had a good day. I try to fill in happy faces at the end
of each week. If your child had a behavior issue, the calendar will
indicate so.
READING GROUPS
Small reading groups will begin shortly after school begins. Your child will then bring home daily readers and a reading log each night. It is imperative to your
child's reading success that you make the time to read this book with him/her no less that 3 times each night. We are not aiming for word identification
with this skill, we are striving for fluent (smooth /uninterupted) reading from
your child. As a parent, I too have had to make this part of
my family's routine. I have found that my child looks forward to this time
when she gets my undivided attention. It has also helped make her a more
confident reader. Please make this a meaningful routine in your home as
well. It is an investment that promises great returns. Together, we
are laying the foundation for your child's education.
MONEY
Please remember to place all money/checks sent in to the school in envelopes labeled with your child's whole name and what the money is for. PLEASE, always send money in a marked bag or envelope.
